Film screening | Homeless Dandy

May 14, 2021

The documentary film “Homeless Dandy” directed by Jugoslav Nikolić premiered on Friday, May 14 at the Balkan Cinema. In this film, artist Nikola Vranić talks about his life before he ended up on the street, as well as how he became homeless. Due to the great interest of the audience, an additional screening of the film was held on the same evening.

Nikola Vranić said about this film and the collaboration with Nikolic: “I was a little reserved, because it is still an intimate part of my life.” That’s why I didn’t want to share it with others, because it’s not a pleasant story at all. And in this time we live in, more blackness is not needed. In the end we agreed to do it anyway, considering there are other people like me out there. With that, I guess, the film will contribute to raising awareness among the viewers”.

Director Jugoslav Nikolić previously stated about his documentary production: “I called the film “Homeless Dandy”, because Nikola is mostly impeccably dressed on the street with a combed beard. People can meet him in a jacket or coat, and sometimes he sleeps in the haustor or, if he’s lucky, at a friend’s place for a day or two. When people see Nikola with an outstretched hand holding a cap, they first think that some gentleman has stopped to rest. Nikola simply does not know how to beg”.

“Homeless Dandy” was filmed in April 2020 and February 2021. Cinematographers Miloš Banjalić and Jugoslav Nikolić worked on the film, Ivan Nedeljković was in charge of editing, while DJ Willy signed the music.
