September 3 – September 10, 2020
In a world that is rapidly changing, it is important to accept that these changes are just the beginning and that understanding and implementing digital transformation is essential.
Therefore, we have equipped the “Balkan” cinema with VR technology, which, in addition to everything else it represents, is also a new artistic medium and a gateway to new artistic freedoms. Virtual reality bridges the gap between humans and machines, the real and the abstract, offering completely new dimensions for artists as creators, but also for consumers in their experience of an artwork.
Documentary film enthusiasts had the opportunity to experience this during the Beldocs festival, held from September 3 to 10, where the Saša Marčeta Foundation and the “Balkan” cinema were entrusted with the VR selection. Visitors, in the “Balkan” cinema space and with its VR equipment, explored the works of four authors: Jan Kounen, Diego Kompel, Ana Knežević, and Milad Tangshir. We have no doubt that this is just the beginning and that, in the near future, we will increasingly witness artistic works created using virtual reality as a new artistic medium.
