June 20 – July 10, 2020
The exhibition “Thank you, Raša Todosijević, Grateful Serbia,” featuring works by conceptual artist Dragoljub Raša Todosijević from the late 1970s to the present, including the “Balkan Banquet,” opened on June 20 at the “Balkan” cinema in Belgrade. The exhibition provides a unique overview of Todosijević’s multi-decade oeuvre, one of the most relevant and internationally present artists from this region.
The “Balkan Banquet” – an installation in the shape of a swastika made from 17 tavern tables covered with black tablecloths, displaying remnants of cooked beans, bread, and beer – occupies a central position in the cinema’s grand hall throughout the exhibition. After a dinner with guests, music, and drinks, the food remnants serve their purpose as part of the exhibit, accompanied by watercolors as preparations for prints, Fuxus Piano, and video and photo documentation of the performance Was ist Kunst Marinela Koželj?
The exhibition is accompanied by a bilingual publication in Serbian and English, authored by Stevan Vuković. The curator of the exhibition is art historian Ksenija Samardžija.
