Elina Duni – Biography

Born into an artistic family in Tirana, Albania, in 1981, Elina Duni took her first steps on stage as a singer at the age of five, performing for National Radio and Television.

After the fall of the communist regime in 1992, she moved to Switzerland with her mother and began studying classical piano, eventually discovering jazz.

Elina Duni’s (AL-CH) music, which explores themes of migration and loss, as well as the tension between feeling at home and being a stranger, advocates for an open Europe. With her exceptional voice, she builds bridges between Balkan traditions, songwriting, and contemporary jazz.

At Bioskop Balkan, we will hear two pieces from these outstanding musicians:

The tender, wistful song Moskifrike (Are You Not Afraid, My Dear), 2015, by Elina Duni, and the hypnotic, repetitive, and constantly evolving sound of Batković’s piece Quatere, 2015, emanating from his accordion.
